What ingredients do I need to make this one pan meal?

Some key ingredients you need

  • smoked kielbasa- see below
  • potatoes- use can use small potatoes or cut larger ones into medium bite size pieces.
  • spinach
  • bacon- I like to use real bacon pieces or cook a few pieces and crumbled them. REAL is always better.

What is kielbasa? and Where do I find it?

Kielbasa means sausage. It is a polish sausage to be exact. It contains meat and ground up spices. There are a variety of kinds with different meats or all beef. I like to buy the all beef.

You can find it in the deli meat or by the bacon in your grocery store. It's a sausage that has already been cooked and in the shape of a U.

Prep food for cooking

  1. start by washing your potatoes and cutting them into bite size pieces. Then stick them in the microwave to par boil for a few minutes. Once they are done everything will throw together quickly.
  2. Also, if you are cooking your bacon you will also want to do that ahead of time too.

Use a large skillet

Everything will be going into one pot. Use a large skillet or large braiser.

How to make potatoes and kielbasa skillet meal

  1. add a small amount of oil to the bottom of the pan to encourage browning on the sausage.
  2. add your sausage and onion.
  3. cook on medium heat until the sausage is brown and the onion has softened.

Make your sauce

While those are cooking its a good time to make the sauce. In a small bowl add

  1. brown sugar
  2. dijon mustard
  3. apple cider vinegar
  4. dried thyme

mix them all together.

Combine into Frying Pan

Now that your kielbasa is browned add the remaining ingredients to your pan.

  1. potatoes, sauce and stir together
  2. add in your spinach
  3. bacon
  4. toss everything together and let cook for about 5 minutes. The spinach will cook down significantly.

Skillet or Pressure Cooker Meal

I love that this meal takes only about 30 minutes to make on the stove top! You can use your instant pot pressure cooker too to make this meal, I've included the instructions on how to do that below in the recipe card.

A Meal for EVERYONE

This meal is so versatile. I feel like it can be dubbed as "the perfect man meal" doesn't every guy love sausage? 'meat and potatoes?!" Or, it's the perfect family meal- what kid doesn't like hot dogs (which this sausage can totally pass as) it fairly lean and full of dark green spinach + sausage that any girl on a diet could use this as part of their meal plan. Also...maybe sub potatoes for sweet potatoes or just eat a few less of them depending on your diet.
